TRIbal Talk: Updates

Hi everyone,

After only a short few months on the planet, I've discovered an "Updates" section on our website is necessary.

With so much going on for GOTRIbal, my slow reptilian brain (no disrespect to the reptile...but w/out sunshine, well, they don't move a lot...and it's been June-Gloom here in San Diego) figured it was time to share the goodies with all of you as they happened.

If anything in these posts stirs up ideas, thoughts, questions or a-ha moments for you, by all means email me. If you don't get a reply in a few days,

a. assume i've finally had my third mental breakdown and let me enjoy it (it's the only time I get vacation and the short moments i'm on them do me good)

b. call 911 and tell them to call me and say "it's Chrissie calling"

c. resend your email with the subject heading "Need help with GOTRIbal?"

Aug 3, 2009 Has it been a week already! Geezo.

Time flies when you're having fun, and rockin the planet with the coolest chics evah!

It's onward for us for sure -- great news to hear Chrissie will be playing with us at GOTRIbal-Fest on Oct 17 and even better to hear she's going to lead an intimate ride + fun lunch with us the next day... a few of us! 24 ladies, chosen simply by who invites/successfully pays the GOTRIbal message forward the best (a.k.a. gets the most women to join us!), will experience this incredible opportunity on Oct 18.

Chrissie will be joining us only a week after her race to defend her World Championship title in Kona. So plenty of race reports, crazy stories and good times to be had for those of us lucky enough to hear it -- straight from the horse's mouth (so to speak!).Beyond this, I'm elated to bring the very first edition of our very cool TRIbal Talk newsletter to the world TRibe. Finally a means to share cool updates, including what you all are thinking, what you're up to in various regions, and all the goodies that are coming out of GOTRIbal Headquarters!

The Newsletter goes out Tuesday, Aug 4! stay tuned!

Am amazed, delighted and humbled by this commencement speech given by J. Mackey, CEO of Whole Foods Market.

http://www2.wholefoodsmarket.com/blogs/jmackey/2008/05/21/bentley-college-commencement-speech/#more-27

Definitely worth a look for everyone in GOTRIbal. Too many good chunks to mention here.

Also excited about the GOTRIbal Fest planning progress. Am starting to feel the real energy behind the event and the people committed to coming to play, educate and hang out with us. Promises to be an incredible first GOTRIbal event!

Lastly, i thank all the amazing women in the TRibe who continue to shower me with ideas for how GOTRIbal can grow -- and how THEY can take those ideas and make them real. This is truly a global movement, one that will push industries to change (ex: the tri gear industry to make gear for real women and the financial industry to rethink women-owned businesses and their impact on communities and cities).

We are doing this together, through the journey of sport, and it will only gain strength and momentum as we grow our TRIbes around the world.

Thank you.

Am pouring through the results from the GOTRIbal survey and can't wait to post here.... have put a little teaser in the "About Us" section on our website just for general knowledge.

Registration for our first ever GOTRIbal-Fest goes up this week! YEAHOOO. We're getting lots of interest from elite women athletes the world over and i get butterflies just thinkiing about how awesome the event is going to be. The beginning of so many more of these to happen world-wide. "Coming to a TRIbe near you"!

I've restarted my training and i'm a bit nervous and excited at the same time. Removed all races (except next week's fun sprint tri in San diego) from the fall schedule and will be completely overhauling my training ... Square 1, so to speak. Course before I do that I felt inclined to do a little hill work + run sesh... does the madness ever stop?

Am also excited to see the girls around the world TRIbe love our gear.... and isn't it so much easier to get now that we have a GOTRIbal shop? (I hear you out there..."finally Tanya".) Well, grab what you need to feel comfortable, look great and race without scars from your gear!

Til next time - Onward and upward!

The day starts with a big win for Chrissie ... well that's how my day started. It was already over for that girl. She smashed the clock and rocked the competition. Or wait, rocked the clock and smashed the competition? Either way, it was a good thing on this fine Sunday morning to learn about.... next up? Timberman in New Hampshire, where she may again, come to meet some of the GOTRIbal ladies she'll be racing alongside that day.

Meanwhile, back at the teepee, another boy who has been lit by the GOTRIbal flame, is on fire building the new GOTRIbal shopping cart. Our mission has infected many a boy, and fortunately for us, this one is a super-smarty-pants and knows his way around a bicycle (and up a hill or two). Anyway, he's generously donating his expertise and time to make sure we have a place to buy and sell our killer goodies. I keep telling him the 537 (and counting) ladies in the TRIbe ARE hot and driven and active and... BUT, this is NOT going to get him any dates any time soon. You can't knock a guy for tryin though.

Equally on fire are the girls around the world wanting to USE the shopping cart...! I love it. Patience and timing are everything - as we learn in training/racing - and it's no different with this shopping cart. The cart will be a welcome change from our current Web 0.1 way of doing things...but it won't quite yet be Web 2.0. It's more of a Web 1.4.

We are also racing ever closer to the identification of a developer than can build the sophisticated web-based infrastructure we need for this incredible community. The first thing we require though is a DESIGNER....someone with the talent, the creativity and equally important, the Perspective of our members, to design the blueprint for our new web presence...our new house, if you will. Anyone in this community have ideas who might be willing to give it a try??? My new contact info: tanya@gotribalnow.com

well i'm going back to work... wish you guys all well and stay tuned.. this week the shopping cart goes live AND registration for the GOTRIbal-Fest is also going live!

What a day! THe super fun news? Susan Zody has made it out to SD from Chicago-land. WELCOME girl! Zody will be here helping to create awesomeness for GOTRIbal moving forward. From the GOTRibal-Fest to acquiring non-tri-industry sponsors, Zody is on full time to help out. Please welcome her as she'll be visiting with us on rides, swims and races (she's doing Carlsbad Sprint Tri!)..

Also, an absolute gift of a friend has fallen into my life to help build a shopping cart experience for us GOTRibal girls. Amen to that! Watch for it next week to be live!

FInally, Zody and I were at the Hyatt by the Mission Bay today finalizing some plans for the big event in October. Holy cow that place is GORGEOUS. This event is going to be incredible....can't wait.

I'm extremely excited to continue to hear about the triumphs of the GOTRIbal girls as they race and train around the world. Just this last weekend, Sharie Cundall raced her first sprint Tri and placed third in her age group! And the weekend before, six of the fifteen girls that raced in San Diego, landed on the podium. Everytime we race, we show more and more women what is possible if we believe in ourselves and reach out to get the support we need to realize our goals. GOTRIbal girls will continue to do amaze, and we'll do so on and off the race course.

I'm also proud to have built a partnership with XTERRA wetsuits. As we move forward this next year, we aim to provide both specialized wetsuits and advice so that women searching for the best, most flexible wetsuits can get both at a reasonable price of entry. Furthermore, I continue to be appreciative of those organizations that help us build sustainability in our model so that we can grow and become even stronger in our services and programs into the future.

It's ready to go!

The GOTRIbal Girls survey is on -- please go to: http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/?p=WEB229CZMY83RW

Short and sweet.

And why? To find out who we are, what we're about, and how we can begin showing others who want to support GOTRIbal's mission to DO SO!

We are a powerful, smart, influential and pretty cool group of chics.

But you knew that already....

Or maybe you didn't.

Which is one of two reasons why I've put this survey together. To:

a. Give you all more info about just who is part of this amazing organization

b. Give sponsors an idea of just how cool we are, and why they should support us in our growth

Check out the new GOTRIbal Tri Tops!

Click on the "Forum" tab, and you'll see more info and pics at "GOTRIbal Gear".

That's all for now...

Onward and upward girls~

The GOTRIbal tech tee is here! They are AWESOME. Super comfy, super cute and with just a little bit o sass. I'll be posting photos soon.

If you'd like to check out the brand, it is Zorrel, the "Marathon" style performance tee.

I've tried a few on, and they are fitted nicely for a woman's shape, and run a bit large (I had on a small and it fit fine....and i'm 6' tall & weight 150 lbs).

If you're interested in one, please let me know...I'm gathering an "interest" list now so I can get an idea of how many to order. Again, pictures of the shirt (with the logo) will be forthcoming shortly.

Signing off for now...

In the last few weeks GOTRIbal has been featured in Australian TRIATHLETE mag (due primarily to the efforts of Tiffany, our Aus TRIbe Chief) and 220 Mag (in the UK). This is fun stuff for us...it allows girls across the pond, and down a ways, to have a chance to see our global reach and become involved.

Leanda Cave, protriathlete and awesome chic-extraordinaire, has started writing articles for us! To check out the first in her series, click on "Members" and then click Articles.

GOTRIbal-Fest 2009 is on and I'm looking forward to meeting so many of you that I've only "spoken" with online. At this stage, we have SkirtSports, San Diego Running Institute, Tri-Swim (SBR Sports) and more coming on board to play with us that day. I'm very excited to support women-owned businesses in our industry and seeing SBR Sports and SkirtSports, along with Braveheart Coaching and Lovejoy Fitness tooinvolve their organizations with ours ensures that the day will be filled with influential, knowledgeable and super cool chics.

My main goals now are to partner with sponsors who can help support GOTRIbal at a level that allows our girls to see and learn from them on a meaningful level, promoting smart dialogue and good conversation -- before, during and after the event. (If you represent a company that might want to play, please contact me! The investment levels are low, and will most certainly rise as we begin doing these across the globe in years to come)For between $1,500 and $3500 a company that wants alignment with our smarty pants women can come on board in a big way for our inaugural event!

This GOTRIbal-Fest event will support the local chapter of Girls On The Run, an organization designed to build confidence, self esteem and a young woman's belief in herself and her capabilities...all through the sport of running. This partnership can't be a better one for GOTRibal, and I look forward to seeing Girls On The Run volunteers at the event mingling with all of you.

I am ecstatic about one of our own members who will be joining me for a month in San Diego to help me develop GOTRIbal and make it even more accessible to women around the world. She is taking a leave of absence from her 'real' job in big corporate America, moving across country, and investing a month of her time to growing GOTRIbal into a world-force to be reckoned with! She is Susan Zody and you can all expect to hear more about, and from, her in the coming weeks.

And to the elite women involved in GOTRIbal, including our own Chrissie who gives so much time that doesn't even exist on her calendar -- thank you for involving yourself in an organization that will change the spirit and self-perceptions of women everywhere so that more are empowered through sport, and the connections they find here, to do whatever they originally deemed as the "impossible"

Until next time... Onward!

Well, I can’t believe I did it – wow. Ok. Let me have my Miss America/Grammy/Emmy/Etc… moment: “I would like to thank, God, Sara Landholt and her Ironmakeover blog which led me to Tanya and a super-fantastic organization, GoTRIbal”.

– It seems like just a short time ago that I stumbled across Sara’s page which had a link to the GoTRIbal site. For all of those women out there where triathlon is second nature, I want to tell it from the mountain – that GoTRIbal has been an inspiration to me – I l… Continue

Woohoo - I am now Half an Ironman!

Eighteen weeks of solid training is now behind me and I have now completed my first half ironman - and boy does it feel good! My goal, and that of my girlfriend Leigh, was simply to finish and to finish within the course time limit of 7 hours. 18 weeks ago that seemed pretty daunting. While I'm strong on the bike, I'm a slow swimmer (and had never attempted a distance anywhere near 2km) and while I've run several half marathons and one full marathon, run speed is definitely not my strong suit!… Continue

What a day !

Today I got up at my usual time of 5:30 am. Got my big girl, fitness trainer pants on and my Manchester Road Race long sleeve tee. Suddenly, all the pre-race jitters hit me pretty hard. For the first time I was doing a race entirely alone.I had resigned myself to the fact that there will be times this will happen. You will have plans (as I did this time) to run with a few friends and for whatever reasons they will be unable to participate. As I moved towards the line up for those who were unseede… Continue

My first 5K

Well...I did it! Yesterday I competed in my first ever run race, a 5K. My goal was to run the whole thing and I did. It was wonderful to see my mom and my daughter at the finish line. My daughter actually wrote me a note to keep with me as I ran...I (heart) 154-->my number. I kept in my left glove, a direct line to my heart. The influence I'm having on her was and is my reason to keep going. She is seeing a strong woman who is setting goals and accomplishing her dreams. What a day...
