Hi Doris, well done on the new PB!
The tri went really well on Monday and the club is getting some great feedback..the good weather always helps (unlike last year!).
I was the last marshal on the course, right at the run finish, so I probably shouted out your name as you zoomed past!
I am doing the next one so hope to see you there
All the best
Janet

Hey Dorisimo - thanks for your message! Yep 10 marathons and an Ironman (and a 70.3) this year - doing both the UK events. What's your plan for the year? Really great to find some other UK based triathletes - looking forward to swapping tri-related tales :o)

Moms, media & sports

So Karin's post the other day got me thinking about moms and athletes. Specifically moms who are athletes. And more specifically moms who are professional athletes.

Then I stumbled upon a study from Penn State about the media coverage of Serena Williams' outburst during the U.S. Open (remember, she was rather forceful with her opinions with the officials?). The study said the coverage reinforced gender stereotypes, particularly when the stories contrasted Serena to eventual winner Kim Cl… Continue

Woman... Athlete... Mom

Reading Amy's recent post about NYC marathon winner Derartu Tulu got me thinking about how different it is for female and male athletes. Of course, not all women athletes have children but for those who do, a new baby brings more changes than just your typical "holy-cow-my-life-is-never-going-to-be-the-same" business.

From the moment you conceive, your body is not your own. You are then sharing it with a new life form that is completely dependent on what your body has to give it. In my own expe… Continue

NYC Marathon

While watching the New York City marathon on Sunday I was amazed at the ease with which Derartu Tulu seemed to be running, the kick she had at the end to pull off her second major marathon win.

As I read more about her online in the hours afterward, I found I wanted to know so much more about this 37-year old mother of two from Ethiopia.

In her post race comments, she said that she struggled for much of the past three years after giving birth to her second child. She had gained nearly 40 pound… Continue

My non triathlon hobby

So a few of you know that my good friend Carmen got me into triathlon as she thought it would be great cardio and cross training for the Breast Cancer 3 Day we'd be doing this November. As the months went on most of you know i've gotten just a tad bit addicted to tri's. With November being such a busy month for me with The Catalina Island Triathlon (race #7) this weekend and 2 weeks later my walk I wanted to throw this out to you ladies. So many of you have helped me over the year with my traini… Continue
